May 27 - Joseph Joiner Makes Trip to the Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway

Milton, Fla. – May 27, 2009 – Joseph Joiner and his Milton, Fla., based Joiner Racing Team made their first major road trip of the season this past weekend to compete in a $2,500-to-win FASTRAK Late Model Series event at the Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., on Friday night. The FASTRAK event was the support race for the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Showdown that same night. There were nearly 15,000 fans on hand for the event.
Having never seen the famous half-mile speedway before Friday, Joiner and the team had their work cut out for them from the start. But even with no practice laps and more than 50 entries for the event, Joiner was able to make the 24-car starting field by finishing second in his heat race. Joiner started 11th for the 25-lap feature and ran in the top ten before some bad luck and an ill handling racecar caused him to fade to a 20th place finish.
“Overall I was pretty happy with our run at Lowe’s. We just weren’t as fast as we needed to be at the end of the race,” Joiner said. “We went the wrong way on setup after the heat race. The car was really good for the first few laps. I thought we had a top-ten car. Then we got shuffled out on a restart and once the tires got hot, the car was way too tight and wouldn’t come off the corners like I needed it too. But I’m just happy to go up there and make the race. There were a lot of good cars there and we were right there with them.”
Not satisfied with just competing once over the holiday weekend, Joiner and the team decided to make a stop at Travelers Rest Speedway in Travelers Rest, S.C., for a FASTRAK Weekly Racing Series event on Saturday night. Joiner turned the seventh fastest time in qualifying and had made his way to fifth in the feature before mechanical problems forced him to retire from the race.
“At Lowe’s we talked to some other drivers that were parked near us and they told us about Traveler’s Rest,” Joiner said. “It was right on the way home, so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out like we would have liked it to, but we got to make some more laps at a new track. That’s something I would really like to do some more of; go to new tracks and just get more and more experience. That’s how we’re going to get where we can win the big races like the one at Lowe’s.”
Plans for the upcoming weekend have not been finalized, but after the 1,200-mile trip, Joiner and the team plan to stay close to home this weekend, likely competing at Northwest Florida Speedway on Friday night.
Joseph Joiner and the Joiner Racing Team would like to their family, friends and fans for their continued support and prayers, as well as All Pro Tune Up, Car City Engine and Machine, A-Plus Party Rentals, Pit Stop Parts and Services, Northwest Florida Speedway and Clint Holmes at Nine Mile Machine Shop for making this past weekend’s trip possible.
