Aug. 31 - Joseph Joiner Scores 10th Win of the Season

Milton, Fla. - Aug. 31, 2009 - Joseph Joiner drove his Dirt Late Model to two solid finishes this past weekend. The 15-year-old Milton, Fla., native started the weekend with a second-place finish at Northwest Florida Speedway (NWFS) in Blackman, Fla., on Friday night, and topped it off by winning Saturday night's Late Model feature at Southern Raceway in Milton.
Saturday night's victory is the 10th of the season for Joiner, who currently leads the championship standings at NWFS and is second in the standings at Southern Raceway even after missing a number of races.
"I'm really happy with the results this weekend and how everything went for us," said Joiner. "The track was a little rough Friday night and made things challenging, but with all the rain we've had lately, that's just something you got to deal with. Saturday night was better. The car didn't handle exactly like I wanted it to, but it was good enough to get the win.
"Having 10 wins this year is a big deal for us. We put a lot of work into making this car as fast as possible, and to have it pay off like it has is great. We've learned a lot this year and we keep getting better. Hopefully we can get a few more before the season is over."
The strong performances boost Joiner's momentum going into a three-week stretch of big races at his home race tracks, starting with next Saturday night's $1,000-to-win Labor Day Shootout at Southern Raceway. The following two weeks will see Derek Henley Memorial races at both Southern and NWFS.
Southern Raceway's version of the Derek Henley Memorial will be run entirely on Saturday Sept. 12. The race will be a 44-lap unsanctioned event paying $4,400 to the winner.
The following weekend, NWFS will again host the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) for the speedway's Derek Henley Memorial. The event will consist of two feature races, a $2,000-to win, 40-lap event Friday night and a 50-lap, $4,400-to win event Saturday night.
Joiner competed in two MSCCS races in May when the series visited both NWFS and Southern Raceway. He scored a sixth-place finish at NWFS and a fifth-place finish at Southern.
"It's definitely good to get a win going into these big races we have coming up," explained Joiner. "We got on a good streak earlier in the year and ran really good. The next three weeks would sure be a good time to get another streak like that going.
"I think we stand a good chance in at running well in all the races coming up. We're capable of having a top-five car each night, and if things go our way, maybe we can come out with a win in one of them."
