April 8 - Joseph Joiner Gets Second Victory of 2009 in Trip to Avenger Motor Speedway

Milton, Fla. – April 8, 2009 – Joseph Joiner drove his Siding 4 the South sponsored Dirt Late Model to his second victory of the season Saturday night at Avenger Motor Speedway.  Joseph and the Joiner Racing Team made the two-hour trip to the Greenville, Ala., race facility riding the momentum of five top-three finishes in five races this season.

Joseph had never even seen Avenger before this weekend, but he didn’t take very long to adjust to the half-mile, high-banked oval.  Starting the heat race from the outside of the front row, Joseph powered to the lead on the start and didn’t look back the rest of the night, leading every lap of both the heat race and the feature to claim the win unchallenged.

“We had a really good time racing at Greenville this weekend,” Joseph said on Tuesday from the team’s Milton, Fla., race shop.  “I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a new track and been the fastest car from the time we unloaded.  The car was pretty good, but we know some things we can do to get better.  They’re supposed to be having some big races there this year, so hopefully we’ll be even better when we go back.”

Joseph and the team plan to travel to Deep South Speedway in Loxley, Ala., this coming up weekend for the Strawberry Classic.  The $2000-to-win, two-day event will be Joseph’s first race there this season.  DSS was the sight of Joseph's first career Late Model win, which came early in 2008.  He also competed there on two other occasions last year, one being the Fall Nationals in November.  Joseph won his heat race and ran in the top-five for the majority of the race, which drew a field of nearly 30 cars.  Unfortunately, a flat tire with just a few laps remaining robbed Joseph and the team of a solid finish. Qualifying and heat races for the Strawberry Classic will be on Friday, with feature races on Saturday.

“I’m really excited to go back to Deep South,” Joseph said.  “We’re usually pretty good over there.  We won the first time we raced there last year and then had a really good run going in the race at the end of the year before the flat.  The car has been good every time out this year, so I think we have a really good shot at winning the race.”

The Strawberry Classic will also be the first points race of the Fastrak Weekly Racing Series.  Most of the local tracks that Joseph and the team compete at have gone with Fastrak sanctioning for 2009, offering drivers the chance to compete for both regional and national points.  With such a strong start to the season, Joseph is confident that he and the team can run well in both of Fastrak’s points races.

“I think that Fastrak is going to be good for us,” Joseph said.  “I know we’ll be competing against a lot of good drivers, but as good as we’re running right now, I think we stand a pretty good chance at contending in both the regional and national standings.”
